VR Headset Usage Guide on the Thinkpad laptop

Step-by-step instructions for setting up and using your VR headset

Prerequisites & Charge Your Devices

  • Have a Steam account
  • Have a Meta Quest account
  • Have SteamVR installed in Steam
  • Charge the headset and controllers fully before first use (usually 2-3 hours)
  • Keep devices plugged in during initial setup if possible

Export Model in Enscape (Rhino/Revit)

  • Open your model in Enscape
  • Lower the render quality to medium for better starting boost
  • For Rhino: Suggest to save several view camera angles for better re-orientation in VR
  • For Revit: Cameras are directly tied to the Revit view, so no separate Enscape cameras are needed
  • Export the model as exe standalone

Open Required Applications

  • Open your Enscape exe
  • Open SteamVR
  • Open Meta Quest
  • Wait for all to finish opening and stabilize

Put on Headset

  • Clear your forehead hair before putting on, as hair might block a sensor
  • Put on the VR headset
  • Enable link connect on VR viewport
  • You can tighten the head band by pulling apart the vertical two bits behind your head

Verify Controllers

  • Open Steam app in VR
  • Notice the double hand controller icon show up

Configure Enscape for VR

  • On computer, open Enscape
  • Go to Device on left panel and turn on virtual reality

VR Controls

  • Use left joystick to move forward, backward, left, and right
  • Use right hand trigger to teleport
  • Use right joystick to elevate/drop camera when in fly mode
  • Access saved camera view, time of day and minimap from left controller panel
